Paul O'Grady reveals his beloved dog Olga has been put to sleep after going into kidney failure

Paul O'Grady has revealed his beloved dog Olga was put to sleep on Saturday after developing kidney failure.

The devastated 62-year-old TV host said he had carried the 14-year-old Cairn Cross Terrier into his garden with his vet, where she was surrounded by family and friends during her final moments. 

He told The Mirror: 'I held her and off she went. I buried her myself in the orchard.

'She was widely loved. She had her own fan club.  I'm really sad but there was no choice but for Olga to be put to sleep.      

Perfect pooch Olga had been a familiar face on Paul's TV shows for years and had amassed an impressive 34,000 Instagram followers. 

Saying he was relieved Olga was now at peace he said: 'I knew it wasn't Olga any more, she was a state. I shed my tears earlier on in the week. It's heartbreaking. but she had a great life. She loved television studios.'

The star said his beloved dog was ready to pass away, after spending two difficult nights by her side on the sofa.

The For The Love Of Dogs host is known for his love of animals and spent £8,000 on treatment for Olga when she had cancer in 2014.   

The operation proved successful but left adorable Olga with one kidney.

Speaking at the time, he said: t the time, 'It cost twice as much as it did to give me a stent. But I don't care as I would sell my house to pay for it.'

Olga, who was affectionately known as Paul's 'main man', even had her owner's production company, Olga TV named after her.    

Paul, who has five other dogs on his farm in Kent, said he would never get another after losing Olga.
