Get the box of tissues ready because we have a really touching story to share with you. Months after Steve Greig’s beloved dog passed away, he was still feeling hopeless. And that’s when he turned his sadness into a great idea: why not give another dog a loving forever home?  And not just any dog. Steve went to the local shelter in Denver, Colorado and asked for the “least adoptable” senior dog. Senior dogs are, sadly, commonly overlooked, even though seniors still have lots of love to give. Steve adopted a 12-year-old Chihuahua with a heart murmur and four bad knees. And then his family of “unadoptable” pups grew – and grew. And then grew some more. Now Steve has opened his home to not one, but ten senior dogs.

Steve is now a super busy Dad to his pack of senior dogs.

“A normal day for me is getting up at 5 a.m. in the morning and making breakfast for all of them,” Steve says

And with ten dogs, most of them have different diets.

Steve also handles all of their vet and grooming appointments. He also administers medication to the dogs with health problems.

Steve comes home from work on his lunch break to let the dogs out and to give them treats.

Steve is also Dad to a pig named Bikini, as well as two ducks, pigeons, cats, and a few chickens.

While Steve doesn’t have room for more animals right now, he does plan on adopting more in the future.

Steve says that senior dogs, “are just wiser animals.”

He also explains that having all the pups around “just make it feel like home.”

“It’s just fulfilling knowing that these guys are happy and loved and well-taken care of. It makes my days worthwhile” says Steve.

And his animals aren’t the only ones Steve has touched: Steve’s Instagram account has 577K animal loving followers who can’t wait to see what cuteness will be posted next. Steve’s big heart is truly an inspiration for how we can all do our part to help animals. If you’re looking for a new family member, consider adopting a senior dog. If you’re unable to adopt, consider volunteering at your local animal shelter or sanctuary.
